A Living Legacy

My grandfather, Evert Leon Marrs, peacefully passed away last Thursday. Though our family had anticipated this news for quite some time, it was still hard to receive the phone call. As a cheerful man of 92 years, grandpa Leon always had amazing stories to share. He was an honorable WW2 soldier, a father of four, and he worked so hard, living out his days as a simple, small-town man. My favorite story was hearing about how grandpa first met the Lord; seeing how sharing his faith was a continuous thread in grandpa’s demeanor, I always thought he believed in Jesus...

A Hope and a Future

I am a new mom as of March 2016. It’s amazing what a few short months with a brand new babe will teach you. My time no longer belongs to me, but to him. My food choices are no longer my own, but his. I find baby socks under my pillow (sometimes, we co-sleep) and spit-up on my hardwood floors. So, as I’m wrapped up in my new way of life, I’m definitely not thinking about orphans, right? Wrong. Learning to Live Again

Sometimes things occur that completely altar the course of our lives. A large majority of those things are good – meeting your future spouse, becoming a parent, or even a job promotion. And then there’s the things that happen that we can never be prepared for – the loss of a spouse, child, or loved one, the loss of a job, or the loss of a home. My family has certainly experienced both the ebb and flow of life’s waves. We have been blessed and humbled in both the calm waves and the tidal waves. Most recently, we’ve experienced the...

Breaking My Idealism

I drive an [old] mini van. I bought my kids crocs. With characters on them.  None of those things seem like too big of a deal, but they totally scream mom. And scream exact things I have said that I would never do. I said I would never drive a mini van. Or buy those ugly shoes. Or buy my kids things with characters on them. Never. Because I had a dream of what my life would look like at where I am at now. It included everything cool including the pretty white picket fence, killer car, and a bank...

A Life That's Yours

We all kind of have in our minds the way we think things should go, like some kind of general idea, right? Hi. I’m Tara, it’s nice to meet you. I say ‘we all’ because I am probably the most unplanned, non-committal, flying-by-the-seat-of-her-pants gal you know, or just met, and even I had some pretty good ideas I thought God might use for my life. I’d like to call it my story, but really, it’s His. And His version is so much better. Let me tell you about it….But first, can I tell you that I haven’t always been happy about it? About this...
